George Best
When my manager announced that George Best would be joining our club and that as head apprentice I would be responsible for his kit I was gobsmacked! Here was a living legend and I was going to be looking after him. The first day he arrived for training I was awe inspired, yet after a few days of getting to know him he became just another one of the players. He was a lovely man, so concerned for us young players he always gave time to talk with us and encourage us to train more. It was only when the media arrived you remembered his iconic status in the world. This was the first moment I saw the power of celebrity close at hand. Despite the fact that George had unquestionable talent, the media machine is a big reason why he will be remembered by almost everyone.
